Filing a Family Court Case in Camas

Camas residents filing for dissolution do so under Washington State law at RCW Chapter 26.09. Washington is a no-fault state. You state that the marriage is irretrievably broken. You do not need to prove fault. The first step is filing a Petition for Dissolution along with a Summons at Clark County Superior Court. Pay the filing fee when you file. The current fee is around $314 for most dissolution cases.

After filing, the other party must be served or must sign a Joinder agreeing to the case. A mandatory 90-day waiting period applies before the court can finalize a dissolution. Cases with children also require parenting plans and child support orders. Cases under RCW Chapter 26.12 give courts authority to appoint guardians ad litem when children's interests need an independent representative.

Free court forms are at courts.wa.gov/forms. You will find dissolution petitions, parenting plan templates, financial declarations, and protection order packets. The Guide and File tool walks you through each form step by step. Washington Law Help at washingtonlawhelp.org has free guides in multiple languages.

Certified Records and Historical Research

If you need a certified divorce certificate rather than a copy from the court file, order through the Washington Department of Health at doh.wa.gov. Records from 1968 to the present are available for $25 per copy. No identification is required. The certificate shows names, date, and the county of the decree. VitalChek expedited service is available for an additional fee.

For historical court records, the Washington State Digital Archives at digitalarchives.wa.gov has Superior Court cases going back many decades. Select Clark County from the county dropdown. These are useful for genealogy research or locating older judgments not in the online court systems.

JIS-Link at courts.wa.gov/jislink is a subscription tool for attorneys and professionals who need regular court access. It costs $0.145 per transaction with a $13 monthly minimum. Daily maintenance runs from 3:00 to 6:00 AM.
